Why Ashot Minasian Was Not Released on Personal Guarantee: Clarifications from the Prosecutor's Office

The advisor to the Chief Prosecutor, Gor Abrahamyan, has commented in response to an inquiry from "Armenpress" regarding the grounds on which the request for the release of Ashot Minasian, commander of the "Sisakan" unit, on personal guarantee was denied. He indicated that the prosecutor rejected attorney Mihran Poghosyan's motion precisely because no circumstances had changed since the court's decision that would reduce or neutralize the risks of inappropriate conduct by the defendant if released.

The Court of Appeals has made a decision to apply detention as a measure of restraint against Ashot Minasian, and the final part of that decision has been published, based on which the individual was detained. “I believe it is no longer a secret to anyone that if the court did not consider the grounds for detention to be present, it could not have made such a decision. Otherwise, it would simply have rejected the prosecutor’s motion on the grounds of lack of basis. The prosecutor rejected the request for release on personal guarantee precisely on the grounds that no circumstances had changed since the court's decision to impose detention as a measure of restraint, which would reduce or neutralize the risks of inappropriate behavior by the defendant if released,” Abrahamyan stated.

Previously, the prosecutor had rejected the request to release Ashot Minasian on personal guarantee.
