Former Chief of Staff of Georgia Arrested in Berlin, Faces 14-17 Years in Prison

The Prosecutor General's Office of Georgia has confirmed that General Giorgi Kaladze, who served as the Chief of Staff during President Mikheil Saakashvili's tenure in 2012, has been arrested in Germany, reports newsgeorgia.ge.

German police detained the former Chief of Staff at Berlin's airport on December 19. The Prosecutor General's Office of Georgia will send a request for Kaladze's extradition back to Georgia. Back home, he faces 14-17 years in prison on charges related to preparing acts of terrorism, as well as accusations of torture and illegal detention.
