The European Union's Special Representative for the South Caucasus, Toivo Klaar, welcomed Azerbaijan's decision to transfer 10 servicemen to Armenia. “I am glad to have had the opportunity to repatriate 10 Armenian servicemen,” Klaar wrote on Twitter.
Klaar described Azerbaijan's action as an “important gesture in the process of resolving humanitarian issues.” He also noted that the EU will continue to work with Azerbaijan and Armenia to build on the successful meetings between the leaders of the two countries and the President of the European Council.
Earlier, the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that, with the mediation of President of the European Council Charles Michel, 10 prisoners of war were returned to their homeland. It is worth reminding that on December 15, a trilateral meeting took place in Brussels with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, President Charles Michel, and President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan. There was also a trilateral meeting between Nikol Pashinyan, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Ilham Aliyev.
It is worth noting that 10 servicemen who had been captured on November 16 were returned to Armenia on December 4.
