Spyware Infects Phones in Armenia, Says Samvel Martirosyan

For the first time, Armenia has been named as a state that directly uses spyware to infect and surveil the phones of its citizens. This information was shared on Facebook by information security expert Samvel Martirosyan.

According to him, this was discovered by Meta - Facebook and Citizen Lab. The targets include political figures and individuals connected to the media.

“Spyware produced by the Macedonian company Cytrox has been used for Android systems and iPhones,” says Martirosyan.

While he is unaware of the specific individuals affected, the infections have been carried out via fake links that mimic real websites, such as youtu-be.net. Furthermore, the infections have also occurred through SMS and messages sent via messaging apps.
