National Security Service Reserve Officers Union Issues Statement

The Union of Reserve Officers of the National Security Service has issued a statement. “The social and political situation in the country is worsening day by day. The causes are not only the shameful 44-day war in Artsakh but also the defeatist, endless concession policy applied against the enemy, along with the legal lawlessness that is eroding the country from within, creating an atmosphere of despair and helplessness.

Throughout the new independent history of Armenia, there have certainly been instances where criminal cases initiated by law enforcement agencies have raised doubts, not clearly recognized by society, and the legal prosecutions carried out have been viewed as politically motivated orders, provoking public dissatisfaction. In such situations, law enforcement agencies, including the NSS, have refrained from criminal prosecution or made every effort to gather substantial evidence, presenting a person's guilt to the public and the court in a substantiated, convincing, and accessible manner.

Today, the situation in the country is entirely different. To achieve its goals, the ruling political force resorts to repressive actions, suppressing dissent in every possible way, and in certain cases, law enforcement operates arbitrarily and without justification, resulting in the widespread arbitrary detention of anyone who opposes the will of the authorities.

A de facto dictatorship is being established in the country, encompassing all its components. No one is safe from the possibility that tomorrow someone may knock on their door and detain them without justification. The absurdity is that all of this is happening in silence from the West, whereas during the pre-revolution period, every apparent violation of personal rights was strictly condemned and became a matter of sensitivity and accountability for law enforcement agencies.

Alongside the established tyranny, it is even more alarming that, without considering the interests of the Armenian world and our allied countries, by making endless concessions, Armenia is being led into a process of Turkification, dealing a devastating blow to our national identity and existence, as well as the very existence of our statehood. The only way out of this situation is for political parties, civil organizations, movements, and individuals to unite, setting aside differences, to neutralize the calamity that has befallen the country and the Armenian people.
