Who is Turkey's Special Representative in Armenia?
Turkey will appoint a special representative for the normalization of relations with Armenia, who will be the former ambassador of Turkey to Washington, Serdar Kılıç. This was announced by Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu in the UAE.
Çavuşoğlu also noted that they plan to appoint the special representative in Armenia during the period of February 14-15.
Who is Serdar Kılıç?
Kılıç was born on March 28, 1958, in the northern Samsun region of Turkey. He studied at the Ankara College of the Turkish Educational Association and graduated from the political science faculty of Ankara University in 1980.
Since 1984, Kılıç has been working in Turkey's foreign ministry. From 2006 to 2008, he served as the assistant head of the NATO department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was the ambassador of Turkey in Beirut from 2008 to 2010, the secretary-general of the National Security Council from 2010 to 2012, and served as Turkey's ambassador in Tokyo from 2012 to 2014 and in Washington from 2014 to 2021.
The Turkish diplomat is married and has three children. Serdar Kılıç's father, İlyas Kılıç, was an elected member of parliament from Turkey's Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi (CHP) from 1961 to 1980. His uncle also held the position of Minister of Youth and Sports in Turkey and was an elected member of parliament from the Justice and Development Party.
