What Did Pashinyan and Members of Yerevan City Council's 'My Step' Faction Discuss?
We discussed the political crisis related to the Yerevan mayor's office and the municipality with the Prime Minister. This was announced by the head of Yerevan City Council's 'My Step' faction, Armen Galjyan, during a conversation with journalists at the Central Office of the 'Civil Contract' party, following a meeting with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan that had just concluded.
Galjyan indicated that a statement would be released soon but also noted that there are differing political agendas. 'Mr. Marutyan left the 'Civil Contract' party more than a year ago, in November 2020, after which the political crisis began. We have been trying for almost a year to find common ground, but unfortunately, we have not succeeded,' Galjyan stated. 'In 2018, Mr. Marutyan joined the CP, after which the party's leadership nominated him as a candidate for mayor, and as you remember, there was a campaign—one that stirred much buzz—and two years later, Mr. Marutyan left the party, which is politically illogical.'
When asked how this crisis manifested specifically and in what way Marutyan's departure from the party affected the citizens of Yerevan, the faction leader noted, 'This may not have been frequently expressed, and the citizens may not have noticed, but in terms of our relationships with the government and various work-related issues, as well as our relations with the Yerevan City Council, we simply have not expressed it publicly.'
