US May Ban Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 Vaccine Due to Thrombosis Risk
Experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are evaluating the possibility of restricting the use of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine due to the risk of blood clots. This was reported by The Washington Post, citing sources.
In April, the use of the vaccine was already limited when rare instances of blood clotting were recorded among vaccinated individuals.
New data will be presented to the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, indicating that cases of thrombosis among those vaccinated with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine have increased since April, although the issue remains rare.
The publication reports that from December 2020 to August 31, 2021, there were six recorded deaths among individuals vaccinated with the J&J vaccine during this period. It is noted that the company provided 14 million doses of the vaccine during this time.
