The 'My Step' Alliance Proposes New Candidate for Mayor

The 'My Step' faction of the Yerevan Council has issued a statement announcing that it has initiated the process of expressing no confidence in Mayor Hayk Marutyan. The coalition has put forward the nomination of the current First Deputy Mayor, Hrachya Sargsyan, for the position of Yerevan Mayor.

In the announcement, several reasons are cited for the faction’s decision to withdraw confidence from Marutyan. The first reason is Marutyan's exit from the ruling 'Civil Contract' party and the 'My Step' alliance in December 2020, and his subsequent decision not to share any political responsibility with them.

The second reason, according to the faction, is that Hayk Marutyan has not sufficiently performed or is not currently fulfilling the commitments taken on by the 'My Step' alliance to the citizens of Yerevan, as outlined in their electoral program.

As a third reason, it is noted that the current mayor has not adequately pursued the mission of eliminating systemic corruption within the Yerevan municipality.

At the end of the statement, the 'My Step' faction expressed gratitude to Hayk Marutyan for their joint work and wished him success in “his new political endeavors.”

It is worth noting that the 'My Step' faction has begun the process of expressing no confidence in Mayor Hayk Marutyan, and preliminary data indicates that 39 signatures have already been collected. A total of 33 signatures is required to initiate the process.
