Sweden Bans Entry Without Vaccination Certificates Amid Omicron Concerns
The Swedish government has revoked the right of citizens from Norway, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland to enter the country without presenting a vaccination certificate (health passport), as reported by Armenpress.
The new regulations will come into effect on December 21. Minister of Health and Social Affairs Lena Hallengren urged all arrivals at a press conference to undergo a coronavirus test upon arrival due to the worsening epidemiological situation.
She noted that the spread of the virus is accelerating sharply, and with regard to Omicron, it is difficult to predict how it will spread in the future. The minister also warned that while celebrating Christmas with friends and family is currently allowed, it would be wise to gather in smaller groups. Additionally, if anyone exhibits symptoms of a respiratory illness, it is better to cancel attendance at the gathering.
Sweden has differentiated itself from other European countries by adopting a relatively lenient approach to COVID-19 restrictions, relying more on citizens’ awareness than on bans and regulations.
