VIDEO: The Railway Will Operate Under Internationally Accepted Rules, Armenia Will Gain Access to Iran and Russia

A trilateral meeting took place in Brussels between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, President of the European Council Charles Michel, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

The discussions focused on the implementation of the trilateral statements made on November 9, 2020, January 11, 2021, and November 26, as well as the need for full realization of these statements. Prime Minister Pashinyan emphasized the urgent need to address humanitarian issues, particularly ensuring the return of prisoners of war, hostages, and other detained civilians.

Attention was also given to efforts aimed at the opening of regional communications. The Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Azerbaijan reaffirmed their agreement on the resumption of railway operations. Accordingly, the railway will function in accordance with internationally accepted border and customs regulations, based on mutuality and under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the countries involved. Armenia will gain railway access to the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation.

Concrete steps to reduce tensions in the region were highlighted as a priority. The parties discussed possible steps towards the demarcation and delimitation of borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as establishing mutual trust.

The parties agreed to continue their communications.
