Request to Detain Mamikon Aslanyan to be Submitted to Court

The candidate for mayor of Vanadzor from the "Mamikon Aslanyan" party alliance, Mamikon Aslanyan, is facing what appears to be an unlawful criminal prosecution. This was stated by Aslanyan's lawyer, Lusine Sahakyan, during a conversation with reporters in front of the Investigative Committee.

“I believe the public is aware of the election results. We know that there was to be a council session in two days, where the issue of the mayor's election was supposed to be discussed. However, considering that a lawsuit has been filed with the court, that session has been postponed for a week. During this time, these events have strangely coincided, even though they are not strange to us. We believe this has been carried out with a specific purpose of initiating criminal prosecution and detaining Aslanyan, preventing him from attending that session,” said the lawyer.

Lusine Sahakyan insisted that the charges against Aslanyan are blatantly unlawful. The lawyer reported that the investigator has submitted a request to the court for Aslanyan's detention.

Lawyer Ervand Varosyan also noted that since the process has already been initiated on the orders of the political authorities, ongoing processes will continue along those lines. “It’s an ungrateful task to predict how this political persecution will manifest in the future. We have been dealing with a quality of political persecution for a long time that finding logical explanations regarding the timing and charges is pointless,” he stated.
