The Zangezur Corridor Should Be Similar to the Lachin Corridor and Have No Checkpoints: Aliyev

The Zangezur Corridor should be similar to the Lachin Corridor, and if Yerevan insists on placing checkpoints in the Zangezur Corridor, then Baku will propose similar conditions regarding the operation of the Lachin Corridor. This was stated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, as reported by Interfax's Azerbaijani service.

"The point about opening the Zangezur Corridor is stipulated in the trilateral agreement signed by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Russia, and Armenia on November 10, 2020. Thus, it is Armenia's obligation," Aliyev said during a press briefing in Brussels with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

According to him, the Zangezur Corridor should operate under the same conditions as the Lachin Corridor. "The trilateral agreements explicitly state that Azerbaijan provides entry and security for the Lachin Corridor. Armenia must ensure us the same unhindered access to the Zangezur Corridor. Currently, there are no checkpoints in the Lachin Corridor. The same should apply to the Zangezur Corridor. If Armenia insists on establishing checkpoints to monitor the movement of goods and citizens through the Zangezur Corridor, then we will demand equivalent conditions in the Lachin Corridor. That is logical," Aliyev stated.
