Omicron Variant Detected in 77 Countries Worldwide - WHO

The coronavirus variant “Omicron” has currently been detected in 77 countries around the world. As reported by Armenpress, this was announced during a press briefing in Geneva by the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

“Omicron” is spreading at a pace not seen with other variants,” said the WHO chief. He emphasized that healthcare systems could become overwhelmed due to the rapid spread of the variant. In this context, Ghebreyesus noted that so far, “Omicron” has been underestimated, considering that infections with this variant may result in milder disease. However, healthcare systems may not be prepared for a sharp increase in cases as a result.
