Missing Debet Contract Soldier Contacts Family from Baku
On November 16, Azerbaijani aggression on the eastern border of Armenia resulted in the capture of dozens of servicemen. The head of the Debet community in the Lori region, Ashot Ghazaryan, informed 'Factinfo' that currently one resident of the community is held captive, whose family recently received a surprise call. The soldier from Debet, captured on November 16, managed to establish contact with his family nearly three weeks later.
"He is a contract soldier, married, and has a young child. His wife and brother spoke with him. According to my information, there was a phone call. It doesn't matter what he said or what they talked about; if he has spoken, it is clear what circumstances the conversation took place in. In any case, we inquired; they felt from his voice that he was normal, doing well. More is conveyed by the tone of voice than by the actual words," the community chairman said.
So far, the community mayor has been checking with various organizations, but the soldier remained on the list of missing persons, and it was only through the phone call that his status in Baku was confirmed. However, there is no concrete information regarding a possible return.
"The family is quite anxious; they want him to return home. At least, I don't have any information suggesting that the return of a new group of captives depends on tomorrow's meeting between Pashinyan and Aliyev or that there will be promises made for their return following that meeting," the community leader concluded.
