Protests Against Covid Passports in Spain
Protests against the mandatory vaccination certificate have taken place in Barcelona and Valencia. This is reported by Europa Press, as conveyed by TASS. Approximately 3,000 people joined the demonstration in Catalonia's capital. Participants carried placards reading "Medical passport, totalitarian state" and "Respect our choice". Many protesters arrived at the rally without masks and chanted "Freedom".
In Catalonia, a Covid passport is required to enter bars, restaurants, gyms, and nightclubs. Since the beginning of the pandemic in Spain, over 5.2 million cases of infection have been reported, with more than 88,000 fatalities. A vaccination campaign started in late December last year, and currently, nearly 90% of Spaniards over the age of 12 are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Vaccinations for children aged 5 to 11 are expected to begin on December 15.
Recently, there has been an increase in coronavirus cases in Spain. In response, authorities in various regions have decided to implement mandatory Covid passports for entry into certain establishments.
