Court Rejects Bail Request for Soldier with Accused Status
On December 4, the court rejected the pre-trial investigation body's request to detain N.E., a soldier who had recently returned to Armenia from Azerbaijani captivity and is now in an accused status. This information was shared with NEWS.am by his attorney, Karmen Poghosyan, who added that the court has left the matter of choosing an alternative preventive measure to the discretion of the investigative body.
“Narek is currently at liberty. Since an investigation is underway, I cannot speak about the details of the criminal case or the charges filed. The charges have just been filed, witnesses have been interrogated, and my defendant initially refused to testify, but after the charges were brought, he can be said to have given additional testimony. The investigative body cannot submit another request for detention; another preventive measure must now be chosen, such as a signature or bail, but that issue has not yet been discussed,” Poghosyan stated.
The attorney also mentioned that the court has accepted the request to detain another soldier, S.A., who holds accused status. There is currently no information regarding the detention requests for the other three soldiers in the same status.
