66-year-old man poured gasoline on his fellow villager and set him on fire: Investigative Committee provides details
The Investigative Committee of Armenia has revealed the circumstances surrounding a case of attempted murder committed by a 66-year-old resident of Norashen village against a fellow villager. According to the Investigative Committee, the incident occurred on August 29, 2021, around 11:00 AM.
Based on the evidence gathered during the investigation, on the specified date, the 66-year-old man and his fellow villager traveled in the former's vehicle to Kaghzrashen village in order to clarify their disagreements regarding irrigation water issues.
On the Norashen-Kaghzrashen highway, a dispute arose between them regarding this issue. During the altercation, the 66-year-old man stopped the vehicle, forced his fellow villager to exit the car, and attacked him with a knife with the intent to kill. The fellow villager defended himself from the knife strikes, although one of the strikes injured his hand.
Afterward, the 66-year-old man poured gasoline from a polyethylene container onto his fellow villager and attempted to ignite him. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, he was unable to complete the crime, as the fellow villager managed to remove his clothing and extinguish the flames.
Subsequently, the fellow villager retaliated, deliberately striking the 66-year-old man on various parts of his body, causing moderate injuries.
As a result of the sufficient evidence gathered, the 66-year-old man has been charged under part 1 of Article 34-104 of the RA Criminal Code. He has been remanded in custody as a preventive measure. His fellow villager has been charged under part 1 of Article 113 of the RA Criminal Code, and a travel restriction order has been placed on him.
The preliminary investigation has been completed, and the criminal case has been forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office for the approval of the indictment and referral to court.
