US and NATO Are Not Obligated to Send Troops for Ukraine's Defense, Biden Says
The US and NATO are not obligated to send troops for Ukraine's defense in the event of a worsening situation. This was stated by US President Joe Biden while answering reporters' questions at the White House, according to RT.
Biden reminded that NATO's collective defense principle does not apply to Ukraine. “We have a moral obligation and a legal obligation to our NATO allies if they are attacked, in accordance with Article Five (of the NATO Charter - ed.), this is a sacred obligation. That obligation does not extend to NATO, meaning I’m talking about Ukraine,” Biden said.
It should be noted that on December 1, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg urged not to confuse partners and alliance members. He reminded that Ukraine can only rely on the alliance's support, not on 'security guarantees and collective defense.'
