After the Brawl, Head of Meghri Municipal Department Has Been Dismissed
The newspaper "Hraparak" reports: "Weeks ago, we wrote that Bagrat Zakaryan, the newly elected mayor of Meghri, had his brother and cousin assault Arthur Atanesyan, the head of the Meghri Municipal Department. Atanesyan was forced to write a resignation letter, and after resisting, the verbal dispute turned into a physical altercation. Atanesyan is a close associate of the former acting mayor, Ararat Tumanyan of the Civil Contract party.
Yesterday, we learned that Atanesyan has, nonetheless, been dismissed from his position. We were informed that he was persuaded to resign voluntarily.
The replacement is now known as well; although there is no decree yet, the fifth candidate from Samvel Babayan's Liberal Party’s council list, 27-year-old Nairi Zakaryan, who was the director of the Meghri Accounting Office, will be appointed.
Incidentally, our sources in the municipality indicate that the de facto mayor is Khachik Andreasian, nicknamed "Tuli," who is the deputy mayor and is a party member of Babayan. According to a coalition agreement, he is set to become the head of the community in two and a half years. Before that, he has already taken on a role, as he is more widely recognized in the community, while Bagrat Zakaryan lacks a team.
It is noteworthy that he was nominated from Aram Sarkisyan's party list. Nevertheless, Zakaryan does not want to surrender his positions and has established new regulations in the municipality, requiring employees to be at their workplace by 08:54 and to leave no earlier than 18:01. When he enters the municipality, he expects to be received ceremonially."
