Slovenia's Constitutional Court Rules Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccination for State Workers Illegal

The Constitutional Court of Slovenia has issued a ruling on the constitutionality of the decision regarding mandatory vaccination for state employees against COVID-19. This was reported by swissinfo, citing European media sources.

Thus, the Slovenian Constitutional Court concluded that the decision mandating COVID-19 vaccinations for state employees is illegal. According to the Slovenian Constitutional Court, it is necessary to amend the infectious diseases law before implementing such measures.

In September, Slovenian authorities announced that vaccinations would be mandatory for all state workers. It was expected that all state employees would receive the first dose by October 1, and the second dose would follow one month later.

The announcement led to mass street protests in the capital, Ljubljana, prompting the Constitutional Court to suspend the implementation of the measure until its legality could be clarified.

Throughout the pandemic, over 430,000 cases of coronavirus infection have been reported in Slovenia, with approximately 5,300 deaths attributed to the disease. About 55% of the population has received both doses of the vaccine.
