Number of vaccinated citizens infected with coronavirus in Armenia revealed

No cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus have been recorded in Armenia as of December 2. This was reported by the Ministry of Health in response to a written inquiry from Sputnik Armenia.

“In total, of the 140 samples taken for sequencing, the Delta variant was identified in 87 (65%), while 47 (35%) were from the Alpha variant,” the ministry stated.

The ministry noted that the COVID-19 situation in Armenia has improved slightly, according to recent statistics. Specifically, the reproductive number of the virus has decreased.

In the last 14 days (up to November 30, 2021), 8,605 cases of the disease were recorded (290.8 cases per 100,000 population), which is a 55% decrease compared to the same period last year (19,284 cases, 651.7 cases per 100,000 population). The reproductive number, calculated over the last 14 days as of November 30, was 0.6, down from 0.8 two weeks prior.

Since the start of the pandemic in 2020 until December 2, 2021, COVID-19 infection has been confirmed in 15,997 individuals under the age of 18 in the Republic of Armenia. According to data from the Statistical Committee of Armenia, one death from COVID-19 was recorded in the age group of girls aged 15-19 in 2020.

Simultaneously, from the start of the pandemic in 2020 until December 2, 2021, 139 children under the age of 18 were diagnosed with COVID-associated multisystem inflammatory syndrome.

As of November 29 of this year, the number of vaccinations against coronavirus has reached 1,217,391. The number of citizens who received the first dose is 781,011 (39%), while fully vaccinated individuals total 436,380 (21.8%).

The Ministry of Health reported that as of November 30, 7,411 individuals who are foreign nationals or do not hold Armenian citizenship have been vaccinated (1.6%).

Among fully vaccinated individuals, 1.5% have contracted the virus. From March 1, 2020, to November 29, 2021, a total of 4,506 cases of COVID-19 reinfection have been recorded in the country.
