Vaccines Likely to Protect Against Severe Cases of Covid-19, Even with Omicron Variant - WHO
Vaccines are likely to protect against severe cases of Covid-19 caused by the new Omicron variant, according to a representative from the World Health Organization, as reported by Bloomberg.
The WHO aims to dispel concerns that this variant may circumvent the most effective measures in combating the pandemic. “We know that vaccines provide some level of protection,” stated WHO Chief Scientist Soumya Swaminathan. She noted that it is still necessary to determine whether there is a loss of protection. Meanwhile, she expressed the opinion that vaccines will continue to protect against severe outcomes, as they have with other variants.
