First Case of Omicron Variant Detected in Greece
Greece has recorded its first confirmed case of infection with the new coronavirus variant, Omicron. This was stated by the head of the National Public Health Organization, Professor Theoklis Zoutis.
The new variant was identified in a Greek citizen on the island of Crete, who had recently arrived from South Africa. According to Zoutis, the initial rapid test of the infected individual returned a negative result. However, three days later, a PCR test was conducted, which showed a positive result.
“The close contacts of the infected person have also been identified, and they continue to remain under observation,” Zoutis said.
