The UN Secretary-General António Guterres has labeled the new travel restrictions related to the spread of COVID-19 variants as "unjust." This was reported by Interfax.

During a press conference held on Wednesday in New York, he stated that the travel bans imposed due to the worsening situation with COVID-19 are "not only unjust and punitive but also ineffective." He justified his stance by noting that the restrictions isolate certain regions and entire countries.

The Omicron variant of the coronavirus was detected in November in South Africa. Experts believe it poses a threat as it spreads more rapidly than other variants and contains a significant number of mutations.
