First Case of Omicron Variant Infection Registered in the US

A case of infection with the Omicron variant of the coronavirus has been registered in the United States. This was reported by the nation's chief infectious disease expert, Anthony Fauci.

It has been noted that the virus was detected in California in a traveler from South Africa who had been vaccinated. The individual does not have severe symptoms and is in self-isolation. All close contacts have tested negative for the virus.

A first case of infection with the new variant of Covid has also been recorded in the United Arab Emirates. According to the Emirati news agency WAM, citing the country’s health ministry, the illness was found in an African woman who traveled to the Emirates via another Arab state.
