One of the Famous ‘Mozartkugel’ Candy Manufacturers Declares Bankruptcy Due to the Pandemic
Salzburg Schokolade, one of the largest producers of the famous Austrian ‘Mozartkugel’ confectionery, has filed for bankruptcy. This was reported by TASS, referencing a statement from the company.
It was noted that the decision was driven by the consequences of the pandemic in Austria and the lack of tourists.
Today, a bankruptcy case is set to be opened at the Salzburg district court. According to the company's director, they suffered significant losses in 2020 due to the pandemic. The sharp decline in the number of tourists, as well as the decrease in celebrations such as birthdays and weddings, has led to a drop in demand for the company's products, which resulted in a considerable reduction in sales.
Furthermore, confectionery shops in Vienna and Salzburg remained closed for weeks due to the absence of tourists in Austria.
