Omicron Variant Registered in 11 EU Countries: Global Situation

As of November 30, 44 cases of COVID-19 infection with the Omicron variant have been registered in 11 EU countries. This information was reported by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, citing data from open sources, as reported by Meduza.

All known cases of the disease have been asymptomatic or presented with mild symptoms. The EU has not recorded any serious or fatal cases of the disease, the Centre emphasized. Most of the cases were previously reported in African countries.

The Director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Anthony Fauci, also presented data on infections by the new variant worldwide, indicating that the Omicron variant has been detected in seven additional countries and regions outside of Europe. A total of 226 cases of infection with the new variant have been registered globally.
