Ministry of Defense Announces Call-up and Demobilization of Reserve Officer Corps

The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia has published a draft regarding the mandatory military call-up of the reserve officer corps for the year 2021 and the demobilization process.

It has been decided to set the number of individuals subject to the call-up of the reserve officer corps to a maximum of 70 medical specialists. As part of the call-up, military personnel who have served mandatory military service in the reserve officer corps are scheduled to be demobilized by February 25, 2022, in accordance with the timeframe established by the Law on Military Service and the Status of Military Personnel.

According to Article 19, Part 1 of the Law on Military Service and the Status of Military Personnel of the Republic of Armenia, male citizens of the reserve officer corps are liable for mandatory military service until they reach the age of 35, and according to the requirements of Part 4, the call-up of reserve officer corps for mandatory military service is announced by the decision of the Government at least once a year. The Government of the Republic of Armenia also outlines the actions related to organizing the call-up, the duration of mandatory military service, the number of individuals subject to the call-up, and the military registration specialties, as well as the demobilization of military personnel who have served the mandatory military service within the legally established timeframe.

The adoption of this decision will ensure the proper organization and implementation of the mandatory military call-up of medical specialists in the reserve officer corps for the year 2021.

The call-up and demobilization will be announced from December 25, 2021, to February 25, 2022, inclusive. Data on citizens who evade the call-up will be forwarded to the corresponding structural subdivisions of the Police of the Republic of Armenia, and after the call-up period, materials compiled regarding them will be sent to the relevant garrison investigation departments of the Main Department of Military Investigation of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.

The Chief Prosecutor has been proposed to continue organizing the work of initiating criminal proceedings against citizens evading the call-up in accordance with the law, as well as overseeing the legality of pre-trial criminal proceedings of such cases.
