G7 Health Ministers to Hold Emergency Meeting on Omicron Variant
The health ministers of G7 countries will hold an emergency meeting to discuss the new coronavirus variant "Omicron." The meeting is set to take place on November 29, according to The Guardian.
Under the presidency of the United Kingdom, the emergency meeting of G7 health ministers will be convened on Monday, November 29, to discuss developments related to "Omicron," the Department of Health and Social Care announced on Sunday.
The decision to meet came after positive tests for "Omicron" were detected in the United Kingdom, Germany, and Italy. France's health minister announced on Sunday that the new variant will likely circulate in France as well.
Earlier reports indicated that a new coronavirus variant with 32 mutations, named B.1.1.529, was identified in South Africa. This variant was later designated as "Omicron." This strain of the virus is considered to be the most dangerous among those identified so far.
