The Son of Former Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan Arrested

Spartak Ghukasyan, accused of committing a crime under the first part of Article 316 of the RA Criminal Code for threatening violence against a police officer, has been located and taken into custody by the police. This was reported by the RA Prosecutor's Office.

In the criminal case concerning the threat of violence against a police officer, on August 18, 2021, the prosecuting authority charged S. Ghukasyan under Article 316, part 1 of the RA Criminal Code and submitted a motion to the court requesting that pre-trial detention be chosen as a measure of restraint.

As a result of the discussion of the motion, on August 20, the Court of General Jurisdiction of Shirak Province rejected the motion, considering that although there is a risk of the defendant obstructing the investigation, this risk is low. It was concluded that the defendant's proper behavior could also be guaranteed by applying a non-custodial measure of restraint, leaving this to the discretion of the prosecuting authority.
