Investigative Committee Reveals New Details Regarding Vardan Ghukasyan's Son's Arrest
The Investigative Committee of Armenia has provided new information regarding the case of Vardan Ghukasyan's son, Spartak Ghukasyan, who was arrested after being wanted for allegedly using violence against a police officer.
According to the Investigative Committee, the law enforcement agencies conducted a series of investigative and procedural actions within the scope of the criminal case being examined by the Shirak regional investigative department. Collaboration with the employees of the Police of the Republic of Armenia led to the detection and presentation of Spartak Ghukasyan to the conducting authority.
It was previously reported that a resident of Gyumri had filed a complaint stating that on August 17, 2021, around 23:00-23:15, Spartak Ghukasyan entered her courtyard with three or four men to clarify matters with her grandson.
To verify the circumstances mentioned in the complaint, law enforcement officials visited Spartak Ghukasyan's residence. However, he initially refused to open the door, and hours later, he called the head of the criminal investigation department of the Kumayri division of the police and threatened to use violence against him.
As a result of the necessary measures taken, Spartak Ghukasyan was located and charged with committing violence against a representative of the authorities. The conducting authority had submitted a request to the court on August 20, 2021, to apply detention as a preventive measure against Spartak Ghukasyan, which was denied.
On September 15, 2021, the Armenian Court of Appeals granted the appeal regarding the detention as a preventive measure for Spartak Ghukasyan.
Considering that Spartak Ghukasyan was duly notified and summoned by the preliminary investigation body but did not present himself, failed to inform them of the reasons for his absence, and his whereabouts were unknown, a decision was made to declare him wanted.
As a result of the necessary measures, Spartak Ghukasyan was located and presented to the conducting authority on November 27, 2021. He has since been detained.
The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
