Interpol Elects New President Accused of Torture in At Least 5 Countries
The new president of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) is Major General Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi, the Inspector General of the UAE Ministry of Interior, as reported by Deutsche Welle citing Interpol.
It is reported that lawsuits have been filed against Al-Raisi in at least five countries worldwide, accusing him of torture. Al-Raisi has been elected as the president of the organization for a four-year term. He replaces Kim Jong Yang from South Korea in this position.
Critics of Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi characterize him as a supporter of aggressive security agencies that subject governmental opponents to arbitrary arrests and torture.
