The 21 km section of the Goris-Kapan road passes through our territory. Soviet Armenia could not construct it through 'the territory of another state' says Armen Abrahamyan
“The 21 km section of the Goris-Kapan road passes through our territory, as stated in the demarcation work conducted from 1926 to 1929, it was given entirely with coordinates, and there is even a description of the borders,” former commander of the Border Guard Troops of the NSS Armen Abrahamyan said in an interview with Armlur.am.
“Soviet Armenia could not spend money from its state budget to construct important communication routes through 'the territory of another republic',” he added.
According to Abrahamyan, the process of demarcation and delimitation between Armenia and Azerbaijan will take years, even decades, especially if it starts under the conditions that Armenia faces today. “We will enter a whirlpool that we will not be able to escape from for a long time. The example is the border with Georgia. In such a normal atmosphere, in friendly relations, we haven’t been able to resolve that issue from 1996 until today. How can we carry out this work under such pressure, in wartime, with a semi-war situation, in a military state? I consider it impossible,” stated Armen Abrahamyan.
According to him, when the public is told that once demarcation is carried out quickly, Azerbaijanis will leave our territories, it is indirectly stating: “Azerbaijanis will remain on our lands for another 20 years.”
“Because these are very lengthy processes. Even if the Russians wish to artificially expedite these processes, one side must make significant concessions to finish quickly,” emphasized the former commander of the Border Guard Troops.
