Ban on Import of Construction Materials from Turkey to Armenia to Be Lifted

According to the newspaper "Jrapuik," from January 1 of next year, the ban on importing construction materials from Turkey to Armenia will be lifted. In the following months, other import bans on clothing, cleaning supplies, footwear, cosmetics, and other goods will also be removed.

It should be noted that the deadline for importing goods of Turkish origin, which was imposed by the Armenian government, expires on January 1, 2022.

In order to get clarification on this issue, the newspaper contacted the Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan and inquired whether the government intends to lift the ban on Turkish goods imports. In response to our question, the minister stated, "It is under discussion; we are doing everything we can to not allow it. In other words, if we find that extending the ban on Turkish goods has had and can have a positive effect on our economy and local production, I am confident that a proper analysis will be presented to the public on this matter."

Member of Parliament Babken Tunyan, who is the Deputy Chair of the Permanent Committee on Economic Affairs, noted that the decision will be made by our government colleagues.

In response to the newspaper's question about whether this has had a positive effect, the MP remarked that a deep analysis is required to determine this: "I am hopeful that in any case of decision-making, if we are speaking about economic feasibility, a well-founded analysis will be presented."
