Why Gasoline is Not Imported from Iran to Armenia: "Hraparak"

According to the newspaper "Hraparak," "Gasoline has not been imported from Iran to Armenia for a significant amount of time. The reasons are varied, but it has been stated that the issue is mainly associated with the rise in the prices of Iranian fuel.

Recently, large quantities of gasoline were imported from Iran, which was sold at a price approximately 20 drams cheaper than gasoline imported from Russia. Now it is no longer profitable to import gasoline from Iran. In addition to price factors, it was noted that there are other obstacles as well. One of them is the passage of the Goris-Kapan highway under Azerbaijani control. The Azerbaijanis have installed a checkpoint here and charge transit fees from Iranian trucks.

When entering Armenia loaded with petroleum products, trucks are charged $250, while returning empty incurs a fee of $150. For trucks loaded with other goods, such as construction materials or food, a fee of $130 is charged for both entry and exit. This means that a gasoline-laden truck must pay an additional $400 to Azerbaijanis to pass through the Goris-Kapan road, significantly increasing transportation costs and thus the price of the product."
