Commander of Russia's Kapustin Yar Training Ground Arrested

The commander of the Kapustin Yar training ground, Oleg Kislov, has been arrested as part of a criminal case regarding the loss of 300 tons of fuel owned by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The training ground, known for being the launch site of the first Soviet ballistic missiles, has placed Kislov under house arrest as a measure of restraint.

According to information obtained by Kommersant, the major-general has been accused of bribery following testimony from his subordinate, Colonel Alexey Prudnikov. Prudnikov confessed that he had provided the fuel to traders in exchange for a bribe of 1.9 million rubles, which he later shared with Kislov. Prudnikov also spoke about two other instances of corruption involving his superior.

Acquaintances of the officer claim that his six-month detention has become “intolerable” for him, and he is willing to provide any name necessary in exchange for his freedom.
