If Payment Is Not Made Within 48 Hours, Gas Supply to Moldova Will Be Halted: Gazprom
Gazprom representative Sergey Kupriyanov clarified on the "Rossiya 24" television channel under what circumstances the company may halt gas supplies to Moldova. According to him, this will occur if payment is not made in full within 48 hours. These conditions are specified in the agreement signed between Gazprom and Moldova. This information was reported by RIA Novosti.
"Considering Moldova's difficult economic and financial situation, the desire to maintain the ability to repay debts to Gazprom, as well as the stance of the Russian president, to whom the Moldovan side has appealed multiple times for support, Gazprom decided to sign a contract essentially under the Moldovan side’s terms, but with the significant and important condition that Moldova must make timely current payments for gas," said Kupriyanov.
He emphasized that the deadline for current payments expires today, November 22, but no payment has been made. According to the contract, the company has notified the Moldovan side that gas supply will be halted in 48 hours.
On October 29, Gazprom and Moldovagaz extended the gas supply agreement for five years, starting from November 1. The Russian company announced that the parties signed a protocol regarding the regulation of current issues in the gas sector, and the terms of the agreement's extension are mutually beneficial.
Furthermore, the Moldovan authorities indicated that the newly proposed formulation by the Moldovan side would be used in the new contract. Additionally, an audit of the debt of Moldovagaz to Gazprom will be conducted in 2022. The debt will then be settled over a five-year period.
