Failure to Acknowledge Captivity Does Not Free Azerbaijan from Responsibility: Armenian Human Rights Defender
The Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, writes on his Facebook page: "Immediately after the recent Azerbaijani attacks, investigations are being conducted within the office of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia regarding videos of captured Armenian soldiers, including their translation from Azerbaijani and identification.
Currently, there are 21 videos and 6 photographs under consideration. We are in contact with the families of the Armenian soldiers who are in captivity.
After this work, the indicated materials will be examined as credible evidence and will be submitted to both international and Armenian organizations for use in efforts to secure the return of our compatriots in captivity.
According to the Human Rights Defender's position, the fact of a soldier or civilian being in captivity must be recorded from the moment, for instance, when a video reveals that he is under the control of Azerbaijani armed forces or authorities. In this case, failure to acknowledge this does not free them from responsibility. There have been numerous instances in the past where the fact of captivity has been confirmed through videos, but Azerbaijani authorities have denied it."
