I Don't Have High Hopes for the Pashinyan-Aliev Meeting; I Don't Rule Out a New Document Being Signed - Arman Abovyan
"Considering the authorities' habit of delivering unpleasant surprises, I don’t have high hopes for the Pashinyan-Aliev meeting," said former MP Arman Abovyan in an interview with "Factinfo," referring to the upcoming meeting scheduled for December 15 in Brussels.
He raised questions about why the meeting is taking place in Brussels, what the agenda will be, and what will be discussed. "There were regular announcements that there should be a trilateral meeting facilitated by the Russian side. The Russian Foreign Minister had stated that there were points that had not been agreed upon, and that as soon as these points were agreed upon, a new meeting would take place. And now, suddenly, it’s in Brussels. What kind of irregularities were there, and what has been resolved? Why do we only know about the date and place of the meeting and nothing else? They should at least reveal the agenda," stated Abovyan.
He did not rule out the possibility of a new document being signed during the meeting, but remarked that the authorities have not publicly disclosed what they want to achieve with the signing, offering only statements about needing to pursue peace and other Azerbaijani-favorable formulations.
The former MP also noted that the Armenian authorities, on one hand, are appealing to Russia for military assistance against Azerbaijan, while on the other hand, they talk about resolving relations with the same Azerbaijan and Turkey and opening a "new era of peace."
"If you refuse to defend yourself and under the cover of this so-called 'era of peace' you are trying to establish relations with your enemies, that is incomprehensible. On the other hand, you are asking for Russia's help but are preparing to normalize relations with Turkey and Azerbaijan. Understand what you want, and then place the blame on others. For this government, everyone else is guilty except for themselves," emphasized Arman Abovyan.
