Foreign Ministry Issues Statement

Today, on November 16, the armed forces of Azerbaijan launched an attack on the eastern direction of the Republic of Armenia's border and invaded the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, as stated in the Foreign Ministry's announcement.

“The Azerbaijani side's preemptive actions have resulted in human losses. This latest attack continues Azerbaijan's persistent policy of occupying the territories of the Republic of Armenia, which began on May 12 of this year with the infiltration of Azerbaijani armed forces into the Syunik and Gegharkunik regions. These actions by Azerbaijan also violate the trilateral statement of November 9, as the Azerbaijani side is launching attacks against the Republic of Armenia from territories that were transferred to it as a result of that declaration's implementation.

The Republic of Armenia, in accordance with the UN Charter, is entitled to repel the use of force against its territorial integrity and sovereignty by all means available. We call upon the international community and our international partners, including the Russian Federation, the CSTO, and the co-chairing countries of the OSCE Minsk Group, to respond clearly and specifically to these actions of the Azerbaijani side that seriously threaten regional peace and security and to take effective measures to prevent them, as well as facilitating the unconditional and complete withdrawal of Azerbaijani armed forces from the territory of the Republic of Armenia,” the statement said.

As of 15:00, there have been no significant changes in the situation on the eastern border of the Republic of Armenia. The Ministry of Defense reports that local battles are ongoing, with the use of artillery, armored vehicles, and small arms of various calibers. The enemy has suffered substantial losses in military equipment and personnel. Information regarding Armenian casualties and injuries is being clarified. Currently, it is confirmed that there are 4 wounded.
