Construction of Residential Houses in Bordering Shurnukh Has Stalled
According to Sputnik Armenia, two days ago, construction of houses in Shurnukh has come to a halt after the installation of customs checkpoints on the Goris-Kapan road.
“After the division of Shurnukh village in Syunik Province by the ‘Soviet border,’ resulting in more than a dozen houses falling under the control of the Azerbaijani armed forces, Armenian authorities initiated the construction of a new residential area there. The 13 houses being constructed were intended for those whose homes remained in the eastern part of the Goris-Kapan road, in areas controlled by Azerbaijan.
However, following the establishment of customs checkpoints on the Goris-Kapan road two days ago, construction has halted. Due to the poor condition of alternative routes, the village has been partially isolated, leading some builders to refuse to go there. Additionally, there is no possibility to transport construction equipment.
Incidentally, the completion of these houses was initially scheduled for the end of the year, but due to the installation of the Azerbaijani customs checkpoint and untimely financing of the work, the builders are already behind schedule. It is worth noting that of the 13 buildings, roofing work remains to be completed on 3, while the others are at various stages of construction.
According to one resident, among other issues, the initial designs of the houses have become ‘modest.’ It is also reminded that the establishment of the Azerbaijani customs checkpoint has caused difficulties in providing transport for school teachers living in Goris, as well as food supply for the villagers. Currently, both issues are being addressed,” reported the media.
