Sanctions to Be Imposed on Turkish Airlines and Russian Aeroflot for Migrant Transport to Belarus: Source

The EU authorities are discussing the possibility of imposing sanctions against Russian Aeroflot as part of a new package of sanctions related to the migration crisis involving Belarus. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing a European official familiar with the plans.

The new sanctions package will target individuals and companies involved in transporting migrants across Belarus to the European Union borders. According to Bloomberg's source, in addition to Aeroflot, the Turkish airline Turkish Airlines is also mentioned.

The new sanctions may be announced in collaboration with the United States and the United Kingdom early next month.

A source close to Aeroflot informed RBC that the airline does not operate flights to countries where refugee flows traditionally originate. In the Middle East, the only routes available to the Russian carrier are Egypt, Israel, Iran, and the Emirates, the source added.
