Prime Minister Urges Citizens Traveling on Goris-Kapan Road to Use Alternative Route
Since August, Azerbaijan has been implementing customs procedures for Iranian trucks on the section of the Goris-Kapan highway passing through its territory, specifically the Eyvazli-Chayzami area. This was announced by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the start of the government meeting.
“Yesterday, we received an unofficial notification from Azerbaijan that starting from midnight on November 11, they plan to implement customs and passport control also for Armenian citizens and goods. After receiving this notification, we decided to redirect citizens traveling through that area to the Kapan-Aghvan-Tatev-Halidzor-Shinuhayr M2 highway and to allow traffic to proceed through here. The Aghvan-Tatev section of this highway, which has been impassable for several decades, was asphalted and put into operation last week,” said Nikol Pashinyan.
The Prime Minister noted that he traveled to Kapan via this road last week and assures that the road is of high quality, although it requires some improvements to better accommodate the passage of trucks with trailers. According to him, on his way to and from Kapan, he saw several dozen trucks with trailers, including those from the Islamic Republic of Iran.
“Yesterday, until midnight and thereafter, around 100 trucks with trailers passed through the Kapan-Tatev section,” the Prime Minister stated.
He attempted to convince that traveling from Yerevan to Kapan via the new route does not increase travel time; on the contrary, it reduces it. “Currently, unprecedented volumes of road construction works are taking place in the Yeraskh-Goris section, and the quality of the road is significantly changing,” emphasized Nikol Pashinyan.
