It Becomes Clear That There Is a Connection with the Azerbaijani Side: Why Isn't the Issue of Prisoners of War Raised?
We are in the most absurd legal situation. I am even struggling to say whether the Republic of Armenia has a constitution or not. If it has a constitution, not a single meter of the territory of the Republic of Armenia can be changed without the opinion of the people of Armenia. This government always talks about the people, in the name of the people. The constitution clearly states that changes to territorial integrity can only be made through a referendum.
The member of parliament from the ‘Armenia’ faction, Aram Vardevanyan, stated during an urgent meeting of the National Assembly Committee on Defense and Security that it is possible that a referendum has taken place, and we are not aware of it.
He emphasized that the constitution also regulates matters related to the Armenian Armed Forces, stating that it is the duty of the armed forces to ensure the territorial integrity and inviolability of Armenia, which has not been done.
Vardevanyan also drew attention to another aspect, noting that the Secretary of the Security Council, while announcing on Public Television that the Azerbaijani side had informed them about the installation of customs and border checkpoints on the Goris-Kapan highway, is, in fact, admitting that there is communication between the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides.
“What does Armen Grigoryan say? He says they were informed (by the Azerbaijani side - ed.). This means that during this time, they have been in communication, but, for example, they cannot communicate the issue of prisoners of war, and they cannot communicate the matter of the missing. Can they not communicate the issue of maintaining the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia?” the parliamentarian raised the question.
