Chechnya Proposes Ban on Mentioning Criminals' Nationality in Media
The Chechen Parliament will present a bill to the State Duma that prohibits the mention of criminals' nationality and religion in media. This was reported by Коммерсантъ.
Regional deputies have proposed to impose administrative liability for violations, although the amount of such liability has not been specified.
The author of the bill is Magomed Daudov, the Speaker of the Chechen Parliament. The ban is justified by the necessity to maintain "inter-ethnic and inter-religious harmony and peace" in Russia.
According to the explanation, "more and more provocative materials are being published in the media and social networks, containing negative emotional assessments and forming negative attitudes towards representatives or individuals of certain ethnic or religious groups."
