How Much Has The Population Decreased in The Regions? «Joughour»

The permanent population of Armenia has decreased. According to the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia, as of October 1 this year, the population stands at 2,966,800, compared to 2,967,900 during the same period last year. This means that the population has decreased by 1,100 since October 1, 2021.

The newspaper «Joughour» clarified that over the course of a year, the number of residents has decreased in several regions of Armenia. For example, in the Syunik region, the population has decreased by 1,800 as of October 1 this year, while in Shirak, the decline stands at 1,200, and the Vayots Dzor region has lost 800 residents, dropping from 48,400 to 47,600. The number of residents in the border region of Tavush has also decreased.

On the other hand, a significant portion of the regions' residents are relocating to Yerevan, where they are settling. It is noteworthy that Yerevan’s population has increased by 4,100, whereas in the Lori region, the population has decreased by 900 over the course of one year. Furthermore, the total population of our republic has been declining since January-September periods starting from 2018 when it was 2,972,700, whereas the current year's equivalent is 2,963,300, reflecting a decrease of 9,400.
