Azerbaijani Community Responds to Attack on Man and Child in Russia
In the Novye Vatutinki district of Moscow, four young men attacked a man who was accompanied by a child at the time. The suspects do not admit their guilt.
In response to the attack, the police have initiated a criminal case under the hooliganism article, which was later reclassified as an "attempted murder." The suspects have been detained and face the threat of imprisonment.
Reports in the media suggest that they may be citizens of Kazakhstan or Azerbaijan. According to the main administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, all of them were born in one of the Transcaucasian countries, three of whom later acquired Russian citizenship. The detained individuals are brothers who lived in Orenburg before relocating to Moscow. One of them is a minor at 17 years old, while the others are 21, 19, and 18 years old.
Shamil Tagiev, the president of the Azerbaijani community in Moscow, condemned the attack. He stated, "As representatives of the Caucasian people, we condemn the exacerbation of interethnic conflicts in the media. There should be no ethnic disputes. We are against any form of violence; neither the perpetrator nor the victim has a nationality. I could have found myself in the place of the assaulted man."
Tagiev has no doubt that the criminals will receive the punishment they deserve. It is noted that the arrested individuals beat the man and his acquaintance, while the child was left severely frightened. The child's father mentioned that one of the brothers also struck the small child.
