In 19 Out of 20 Georgian Cities, the Ruling Party's Mayor Candidate Wins
In the second round of mayoral elections in 20 cities, candidates from the ruling party, "Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia," have emerged victorious in 19 of them. This is supported by data from the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia, as reported by TASS.
According to the CEC, the current mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, garnered 55.6 percent of the votes, while his opponent from the opposition party "United National Movement," Nika Melia, received 44.4 percent. Representatives of the ruling party have also won in four other major cities: Rustavi, Kutaisi, Poti, and Batumi.
The only city where an opposition candidate triumphed is Tsalenjikha, where Giorgi Kharchilava from the "United National Movement" secured 51.1 percent of the votes, beating "Georgian Dream" representative Goga Gulordava by 314 votes.
The elections were monitored by 100 national and 52 international organizations, with over 3,700 journalists from local and foreign media covering the voting process.
