Legendary Broadcaster Igor Kirilov Passes Away at 90

Igor Kirilov, the renowned Soviet-era broadcaster, has passed away at the age of 90, as reported by Russia's Channel One.

“We received the sad news today. Igor Leonidovich Kirilov, our legendary colleague, senior friend, and for many, a true mentor, has departed from this life,” the statement said.

Kirilov was the host of the 'Vremya' news program for over 20 years and also presented 'Novosti' and 'Goluboy Ogonyok' programs. His assistant reported that Kirilov had “not been infected with any virus,” referring to the coronavirus. “He simply did not wake up; he passed away peacefully,” she added.

He began his television career in 1957. Kirilov received numerous titles, including that of People's Artist of the USSR. He was awarded various state and television honors, including the Order of the Fatherland, third and fourth class, the Order of Honor, and medals for Friendship of Peoples. He also received a State Prize of the USSR for his artistic and journalistic coverage of social and political events in the 'Vremya' program.
